Elysium Matt Damon Running

If you liked the teaser trailer that was released back in April for writer/director Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, I have some very good news. Not only has it been revealed that we will be getting a second preview of the movie tomorrow - likely with a good amount of new footage - today the Yahoo Movies! Twitter feed has debuted a brand new still from the movie, featuring a clearly distraught Matt Damon wearing his funky exoskeleton.

If you've been paying attention to the details, the logo to the left should look familiar. If it does, it's because we've actually been talking about Armadyne since San Diego Comic Con 2011. At the time Sony had launched a viral website for the movie at Armadyne.net, advertising the company that made many of the luxury technologies featured in the world of the film. Even though it's a made up company, we do know that Elysium will feature some real brands - like Kawasaki - but that's really all part of the writer/director using product placement to his advantage.

The movie stars Damon as Max, a former criminal who lives on the surface of a future Earth where the rich have all moved to a space station in the sky called Elysium. While the 1% leaves a completely peaceful existence free of all violence and disease, the poor and middle classes still living on the planet struggle to survive. Things get bad for Max when an on-the-job accident leaves him with only a few days to live, and he realizes that the only way he can survive is by getting to the space station. Returning to some of his friends from his previous life, he is equipped with an exoskeleton that gives him extreme strength and goes on a mission not just to save himself, but the whole world. Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura, and William Fichtner co-star in the movie, which will be in theaters on August 9th.
