George Clooney and Matt Damon are friends, we all know that, and usually occupy two different ends of the movie star persona spectrum-- Clooney is the playboy who mucks around in politics, while Damon is the family man who usually keeps out of the fray.
But now the two personalities are merging, and as is always the case with whatever these two guys are involved in, the results sound fascinating. According to Slashfilm, Clooney will direct and Damon will star in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, a dramatization of the recent Supreme Court case that determined that the interrogation of detainees at Guantanamo Bay was not, in fact, legal. Rumsfeld of the title, you may have guessed, is former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Swift is navy lawyer Charles Swift, who will be played by Damon.
Because this is a classy kind of political movie, Aaron Sorkin will be writing the screenplay, of course, which adds a whole new level of appeal to the thing. I know the whole thing in politics right now is to just move on from the Bush years, but I think this movie sounds like some pretty satisfying justice.
