Matt Reeves Still Swears They'll Make The Cloverfield Sequel One Of These Days
Every time Cloverfield director Matt Reeves sits down for an interview he seems to be asked about a potential sequel to that monster movie, and every time he gives the same kind of genial, encouraging answer. Last time that happened was back in August, when he was busy finishing up his lovely vampire story Let Me In but promised Cloverfield 2 was "a priority" for him and producer J.J. Abrams.
Now, talking to Total Film Reeves is saying essentially the same thing, though given that it's been over six months and he's still encouraging is probably a good sign. Here's what he told them:
"At the moment we are talking about the story quite a lot. Drew Goddard, who wrote the original, is going to pen the sequel and JJ Abrams is very much involved. However, the three of us have been so busy that getting the right idea together has been taking a long time."
So there you have it--Cloverfield 2 is something everyone is very keen to make, though with Abrams finishing up Super 8 and presumably prepping Star Trek 2 to film at some point in the next year, it's no surprise they haven't made much progress on it. If they're committed to Abrams still being deeply involved it's hard to even predict when the movie could actually exist, but Cloverfield fans, rest easy knowing that Matt Reeves is apparently as eternally hopeful as you are.
