Matthew McConaughey And Emile Hirsch Cast In Dark Comedy Killer Joe![]()
Emile Hirsch and Matthew McConaughey have been cast in Killer Joe, according to THR. A dark comedy set to be directed by William Friedkin based on script by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts, Hirsch and an yet-cast actress will play brother and sister who decide to take a hit out on their mother for the insurance money. The man they decide to hire is "Killer Joe" Cooper, a cop and contract killer, played by McConaughey.
This story makes my brain hurt. On the one hand, Hirsch has become a more-than-respectable young actor, performing in films like Milk and Into The Wild. McConaughey, on the other hand, is a complete hack who has ridden the following formula to stardom: 1) Sign on to the most god-awful romantic comedy you can find. 2) Act like a semi-retarded cowboy and take your shirt off. 3) Watch the ladies swoon. 4) Collect paycheck. All we can really hope for is that McConaughey remembers that he was once in Dazed and Confused and can actually put on a tolerable performance. This is a "wait-and-see" if I've ever seen one. |
