The Maze Runner Trailer Teases Thrills, Mystery And A Little Terror
This upcoming weekend will see the release of Neil Burger's Divergent, an adaptation of the first book in the popular series by Veronica Roth, but if you think it will mark the end of the young adult novel obsession in Hollywood you should definitely think again. In fact, in just a few months time we'll see the release of The Maze Runner, based on the book by James Dashner, the first in yet another hit series. The wait for the film is a bit long, but today we're getting an early look as 20th Century Fox has debuted the premiere teaser trailer online.
Directed by newcomer Wes Ball, The Maze Runner begins as a young man named Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) wakes up one morning on a dirty elevator taking him up towards a mysterious walled community known as The Glade. Within the walls of his new home he finds a group of boys his age and discovers that he has no memory who he is other than his first name. He then discovers the rules of the maze that he has been dropped in: at sunrise the walls of the maze lift and those who think they can make it through to the exit do their best to do so. But it's very important that the maze runner makes it back to center of the maze before it's too late, as the walls fall at sunset and the monsters are sent out.
As is the nature of teaser trailers, this one goes by pretty quickly, so let's do a quick GIF breakdown of the whole thing, shall we? First we have Thomas checking out his new home and not really digging it"
Next we have a shot of the forbidding maze walls:
Some panicked runners trying to escape their crumbling surroundings:
And finally Thomas desperately trying to squeeze through a gap as the walls slowly close:
Finally, let's also take a closer look at those creepy scorpion-like creatures - known as "Grievers." Here's a few shots of them that we've brightened a little bit for clarity.
There are many mysteries contained within The Maze Runner, and you'll be able to start solving them for yourself when the movie arrives in theaters on September 19th.
