McConaughey Replaces Owen Wilson

By Josh Tyler: 2007-09-19 02:03:40
McConaughey Replaces Owen Wilson Almost immediately after his recent hospitalization, beloved actor Owen Wilson dropped out of his next project, a glorified cameo in the Ben Stiller directed comedy Tropic Thunder. No big loss, either for Owen or the film. His role was minor, and they’ve been able to replace him.

Variety reports that Matthew McConaughey will step in to take the spot vacated by Wilson. The film uses an ensemble cast to tell the story of a group of actors who gather on a remote island to shoot a war movie only to find themselves forced to become actual soldiers. Filling primary roles in the film are Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Nick Nolte, Bill Hader, and the infamous Steve Coogan.

McConaughey’s cameo will likely have little impact on such a star studded cast. Let’s face it, this is only news because of Owen’s troubles. But, if you have to find an Owen Wilson, I suppose he’s a good one. He’s not Owen, but like Owen he’s pretty good at playing the wisecracking slacker.
