I was there at Comic Con when Terminator Salvation director McG talked to a geeked out audience about getting James Cameron’s blessing and advice on making another Terminator movie. When he launched into his “Cameron backs me” speech, you could sense a ripple of relief sweeping over the crowd. “Well if Cameron’s cool with this guy,” we all though, “then maybe we should be too.” Or maybe not, since McG was lying his ass off.

The National Post talked to Cameron at a recent event, and asked him about Terminator 4, and he had this to say, “It could be a big steaming pile or it could be brilliant. Sam Worthington is in the Avatar and the new Terminator and he likes the script, but I never saw it. There was no blessing involved.”

McG has never actually said James Cameron was truly involved in the production of the film, but he did claim he talked to him, and did intimate that they’d gotten not only Cameron’s input but, specifically, his blessing. It seems McG just forgot to tell Cameron that he’d blessed it. You have to wonder if McG ever even really talked to the man, or if he did make the whole thing up, just because he know it would make Terminator fans like him. If so, pretty pathetic.
