Even though Terminator: Salvation was by most accounts a flop (though not a huge one), director McG is managing to keep busy. He's knee-deep in preparation for his adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues of the Sea, but he's also in the midst of prepping Terminator 5, which is still happening, apparently!
In a conversation with IESB.net, he talked a lot about 20,000 Leagues, and tossed in the Terminator reference just at the end. But it's genuinely surprising to me that they're going forward with a second Terminator, given what a wan reception it received. Does Warner Bros. figure it's closest they can come to their own Transformers? Or does McG somehow have free reign enough to just do what he wants?
As for 20,000 Leagues, it's pretty much as you expected-- it's an origin story, and a modern version at that. "There's a little bit more meat on the bone, in regard to the genesis of the Nemo character, than you're given in the ‘50's movie that Disney made," McG told IESB. "Also, it's a little more contemporary." You can read more of what he has to say over there, but without no Captain Nemo cast yet, it seems clear that anything he says is probably subject to change.
