If you caught last weekend's Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D, you saw plenty of gross stuff flying at the screen-- human spit, T-Rex spit, and, uh, lava. But if you want to see something delicious coming at you, you'll have to wait until 2010's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs comes out in 3D animation. The Hollywood Reporter announced today that the film would be Sony Pictures Animation's first digital 3D release, with Sony exec Bob Osher noting "Food falling from the sky lends itself so well to 3-D." Sorry, I was actually too busy chewing my imaginary 3D food to pay attention to that.
I've said here before that I loved Cloudy as a kid, and since I gave a probably insane 4.5 stars to Journey to the Center of the Earth, I clearly love kid-centric 3D. I guess I have until 2010 to find someone's children to steal so I won't be completely embarrassed to go see this. But hey, the 3D future is here! Grab the kids and put on the funny glasses.
