Mel Gibson Denies Role in Mad Max: Fury Road![]()
It has been about a month since it was announced that Bronson star Tom Hardy would be taking on the role of "Mad" Max Rockatansky in George Miller's continuation of the series that made Mel Gibson a household name. Since he would not be returning to star, many began to wonder what relationship, if any, Gibson would have to the film, and if his recent comments can be taken seriously, it looks as though ties to the role have been severedentirely.
Australia's Herald Sun recently conducted an interview with the actor, and Gibson mentioned in passing that the director had called him just to keep in touch. Not missing a beat, the question was then raised about Fury Road, to which Gibson gave the expected answer: "Oh gosh, I don't know what he's up to. Not with me, I don't think, man, I'm a bit old and long in the tooth for that number...You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker." Did we really expect him to say something else? If he actually is involved, it's going to come as a surprise delivered either during filming or on opening night, not 10 months prior to production. Frankly, Gibson's reaction to the question is a bit strange, as it almost seems as though he thought they were asking about the original role. Even the newspaper remarked that his reaction was unconvincing, so be sure that this rumor will not die until the credits roll. |
