More rumors today from the misty world of the upcoming Justice League of America movie. As usual, they contradict at least half of the other rumors we’ve heard about the project, which means you should probably avoid taking any of it seriously.

This batch of gossip comes from IESB, where they’ve taken to printing random emails from readers. This particular random email claims to be from a guy working on the film’s pre-production, under the direction of George Miller. Yep, that George Miller. Mad Max and Happy Feet George Miller. Their source claims he’s been hired as JLA’s director and what’s more the project will reunite Miller with his Mad Max Mel Gibson.

The rumor goes that George is in charge and that people like Bruce Willis, Scarlett Johansson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, and Leonardo DiCaprio are on Miller’s shopping list for the cast. In specific, he wants Willis for Lex Luthor, Johansson for Talia, and Mel Gibson fro a character named Max Lord. You’d think if you’re going to cast big name stars, you’d cast them as characters people care about. You know, Superman, The Flash, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or even the Martian Manhunter.

The whole thing is a little hard to believe. The email sounds suspect when you read it, and the pricetag necessary to bring that many stars into a single film would be prohibitive. Of course, if previous rumors that this is a computer animated movie are true, that might make the talent costs a little lower. I doubt Bruce Willis gets as much for voice work as he does for showing his ugly mug. The computer animated angle also sort of fits in with George Miller, who got his feet wet in the CGI world with Happy Feet and has expressed interest in doing more animated filmmaking in the future. This isn’t the first rumor we’ve heard which suggests Miller is involved, so even if the rest turns out to be bunk I think there’s a better than even chance that his involvement at least, will eventually check out.
