According to Variety, Mel Gibson is getting back behind the camera and once again he's headed back in time. In his last go 'round Gibson travelled 2,000 years into the past in his much acclaimed, debated, praised and scoffed semi-biopic film The Passion of the Christ. This time he's got the way back machine set for 3 millenia (that's 3,000 years kids) and the story comes not from Israel but some other ancient civilization.

Mr. Gibson himself wrote the script for his latest project entitled Apocolypto. NOT to be confused with any kind of Mad Max sequel, Apocolypto gets back to the roots of the word which are apparently Greek. In the ancient Greecian tongue the word means "an unveiling" or "beginning again" (not necessarily one of fire and death, although that's the popular theme in movies these days - blame the book of Revelation).

Actually, the movie may very well be about fire and death. Reports indicate that the script is plenty packed with action and violence. At least we can take comfort that it's something Mel is good at. On the other hand, little is actually known about the story or the movie except that Mel will not be starring and that filming begins in October in Mexico and will show up in theaters sometime next summer. Here's hoping we don't end up with something akin to Troy 2.
