In a world where the mere presence of Will Smith can turn even a piece of crap like Hancock into a box office smash, none of his franchises will ever be truly dead. No matter what it is, assuming you can get Will Smith back, anything can be a hit.
It seems that’s even true for Men in Black, a franchise most seemed to have assumed was dead and buried after the boorish sequel Men in Black II. Parade Magazine claims that a source close to Walter Parkes, one of the producers of the Men in Black series, tells them that “The challenge is getting the script right and finding a time when our busy stars are available,” which seems sort of like a vague, out of context quote. It’s sort of non-specific but it would seem to indicate that they’re working on another film. Their mystery source then goes on to add, “everyone, including Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, wants to do another.”
As a rumor, this is an oddball. Parade provides no real context for these quotes, they just sort of toss them in there at the end of something else. It’s hard to believe that either Will Smith or Tommy Lee would have the slightest interest in returning, they both have pretty much moved on. Again though, in a world where Will Smith will make Hancock I guess anything is possible. For now, file this one under wild rumors until we can dig up more.
