Mia Kirshner, Erik Knudsen And J Larose Join Darren Lynn Bousman's The Barrens![]()
Even by horror director standards, Darren Lynn Bousman is pretty prolific. After cranking out back-to-back Saw sequels from 200 to 2007, Bousman quickly moved on to Repo! The Genetic Opera and a remake of the 1980 fan fave Mother’s Day, with Rebecca De Mornay and Jaime King. He’ll have 11-11-11 in theaters later this year (see the trailer HERE), and reportedly just beefed up the cast of his next picture, The Barrens.
Mia Kirshner (The L Word, The Black Dahlia) and Saw veterans Erik Knudsen (Scream 4) and J Larose (Insidious) have been added to the ensemble of Bousman’s latest, according to Bloody Disgusting. They’ll join True Blood star Stephen Moyer, who was confirmed for the production earlier this week. In the film, which BD says begins filming in Toronto net week, Kirshner and Moyer plays Cynthia and Richard Marlow, a couple who takes their stepdaughter and young son on a camping trip in New Jersey’s famous Pine Barrens. But trouble ensues when Richard falls ill, and suddenly grows convinced that his family’s being hunted by the Pine Barren’s infamous “resident,” a beast known only as the Jersey Devil. Is that where the Garden State’s NHL team got its name? Seriously, I never understood to connection between New Jersey and Devils. Can any N.J. readers tell us: a) What exit on the turnpike you live near? And b) Is there such a thing as the Pine Barren Jersey Devil? Even if the legend’s untrue, Bousman’s recruiting a potentially legendary cast. Everyone involved has serious horror-movie cred, and the director’s only improving from film to film. The Barrens is shaping up to be a project we need to watch out for in 2012. |
