Writers strike shmiters smike. Michael Bay apparently doesn’t care much for unions, because while WGA members have been picketing he’s been at home writing Transformers 2. Er… yay?
Bay recently told RT that he’s already finished the story for his giant freakin robots sequel. “We've got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I've got something to give the writers. It's like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that.” Maybe he was storyboarding. If I remember right, that doesn’t break union rules. Though he’s probably not a member of the union. The guy isn’t exactly known as a writer, so it’s good to know that he’ll be handing off whatever he has to real writers now that they’re back to work.
His goal it seems, was to get Transformers 2 ready to meet it’s release date, strike be damned. He’s got an idea of what kind of movie he wants to make, and he’s even decided which characters he’s going to add in the follow up. He says, “When you do your first movie, you break the back of it. Now we can have a lot more fun. We can actually make the depth of these characters more fun and a lot more interesting characters. To see actually what you can achieve visually, you never know. When you go into a movie, you never know visually. I think I've got a lot of fun, interesting, funny characters.” That funny part worries me. Please Mike, no more “giant robots play tippy toe in the garden” scenes.
Transformers 2 is currently slated for a June 26, 2009 release, and Michael Bay is determined to have it ready.
