Michael Bay's Pain And Gain Gets A Release Date

Michael Bay has always been a summer movie king. Since the first Bad Boys - which came out in April - every single one of the action director's movies have been released during the summer, from the Transformers trilogy to Armageddon. His next film, however, which has been described as a "Coen brothers-esque" dark crime comedy, that streak will officially be broken, as it's been announced that Pain and Gain will be coming out on April 26, 2013. The film is based on a true story about two muscle heads (played by Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg) who try and make some quick cash through kidnapping and extortion, but everything goes horribly, horribly wrong.

Coming Soon has reported the release date news, and as of now it doesn't seem that the movie will have any stiff competition. While it will be coming out a week ahead of Iron Man 3 (meaning that if it debuts at #1 it won't stay there very long), the only direct competition it faces is the Robert De Niro/Diane Keaton comedy The Big Wedding, which will be targeting completely different demographics. The week before the only wide release is Scary Movie 5. Obviously, April is still seven months away and that's plenty of time for the major studios to start crowding the schedule with new movies.

Pain and Gain has made its way through production already and co-stars Ed Harris, Ken Jeong, Anthony Mackie, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, and Rebel Wilson. The script was written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (who wrote Captain America: The First Avenger together) as well Scott Rosenberg (High Fidelity, Kangaroo Jack).
