Now that Avatar has technologically trumped Transformers in every single way, you have to wonder if Michael Bay will try to find some way to make the explosions even bigger for his next entry in the robot franchise, Transformers 3. Nah, why bother? He’ll probably just do what everyone else is doing and needlessly release it in 3D. Besides, it’s the third movie. Tacking 3D on the end seems inevitable.

But those kinds of decisions are still a long way off for the next Transformers movie. Michael Bay recently posted an update on the film’s status via his blog, and says he’s been out scouting Transformers 3 locations in Chicago, Detroit, Miami, and Washington DC. I hope this doesn’t mean Megatron is planning to attack the Motor City. They’ve been through enough… have you seen the Red Wings record this year? It ain’t pretty.

As for where the movie’s story is at Bay says, “The script is feeling very different from the other two.” That probably means he’s figured out a way to get Megan Fox topless, but it could mean he’ll get all political or something too. Topless is probably the safer bet.
