Paper Heart got mixed reviews at Sundance, even though Josh wound up calling it "a sweet and affecting little story." Maybe if it had gotten more universal praise it would have had a bigger release, given that it stars Michael Cera and his real-life girlfriend Charlyne Yi. But given how many Sundance titles fall into obscurity altogether, they should probably be glad they're getting a release at all.

Overture Films has announced that they'll be releasing the movie this summer, with a limited August 7 opening in New York and L.A. followed by an expansion on August 14. Variety notes that Overture's sister company, Anchor Bay, helped finance the film in the beginning, and Anchor Bay will be in charge of DVD distribution in the end.

Overture is the company that released The Visitor last year, so they've obviously had experience turning a little indie into a hit. It remains to be seen if the divisive Paper Heart, a hybrid documentary-narrative film about love, can manage the same feat.
