Michael Moore Might Quit Documentaries. Or Not![]()
Michael Moore is a master of getting the press riled up and drawing attention to his new movies in the process. So I'm not terribly concerned about what he told the Detroit News, that "I've been thinking that maybe this will be my last documentary. Or maybe for a while." So either Michael Moore is never going to make another documentary, or he's going to take a break from filmmaking, or just make some other kinds of movies for a while? For me this doesn't really qualify as news.
It is interesting, though, that Moore has narrative screenplays up his sleeve, and might dust those off after his next film, Capitalism: A Love Story, is finished. "I have been working on two screenplays over the last couple of years. One's a comedy, one's a mystery, and I really want to do this." He doesn't say whether the screenplays would have a political bent, but I'd imagine Moore would want to throw at least a touch of satire into the mix. If he can tamp down his tendency to go overblown and melodramatic, it would actually be really interesting to see Moore tackle a satire. Like it or not, he's paid attention to what ails America more than most, and presumably still has plenty to say on the matter. Plus a fiction film might not feature so much Moore, which I know would make plenty of moviegoers happy. |
