Michael Nyqvist, best known for his role in the Swedish film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy, has added his name to the growing cast attached to Disconnect, a cyber-thriller from Murderball helmer Henry-Alex Rubin.

Nyqvist is set to join True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard, Warrior co-star Frank Grillo, and young actor Colin Ford--soon to be seen in Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo -- in the upcoming drama, Variety reports. Writer Andrew Stern’s story reportedly follows characters “searching for human connections in today’s wired world” according to the film’s IMDB page, yet details beyond that are scarce.

That being said, I’m willing to follow Rubin into battle, so to speak, after seeing what he was able to do with his stellar documentary Murderball, which dug deep to unearth the hearts beating in the chests of the wheelchair-bound men and women competing in the unique sport of wheelchair rugby. Rarely do we see documentary filmmakers making the transition to fictional feature films, but Rubin’s a gifted storyteller, and if he clings to something in Stern’s script, I’m willing to see what develops. He’s getting a good cast together. In addition to the durable Nyqvist, Grillo is quite good in Warrior, and Skarsgard looks intimidatingly sleazy in Rod Lurie’s Straw Dogsremake. Variety says the story will affect “a large ensemble of characters,” so expect more names to be adde to the ensemble in the coming months.

Disconnect is eyeing a 2012 release date. If the Dragon Tattoo pattern holds, expect Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara to star in the remake two years later.
