Mind Freak Criss Angel Gets A Movie

If you aren’t already aware of who Criss Angel is, then just know he’s kind of like David Blaine, except talented and less of a jerk. He has a show on A&E and a Las Vegas act, but now it looks like the Mind Freak magician will get his own movie too.

In a recent interview with CB’s TV appendage here he revealed that he’s signed on to do a movie version of the comic strip Mandrake. Angel says, “It’s gonna kind of be like a kind of cool realm of The Crow but different of Mandrake the magician coming to life. I’m designing and creating the visual effects for that, as well as going to be acting in it.”

I don’t know if that means he’ll be playing the lead in the film, but since he already dresses like The Crow, that seems like a logical assumption. He’s also no stranger to acting. Magic is half acting anyway, but he’s also played a killer on ‘CSI: New York’, where he got pretty decent reviews. A Criss Angel led film might not be so bad, especially one focused on subject material he’s already familiar with: magicians.

Of other magic-based movies Criss says that “normally magic hasn’t translated very well with storytelling. I mean live it’s been disastrous if you look at certain shows that try to incorporate it throughout the course of the last twenty years.” He plans to make Mandrake different. “Being involved from the beginning in the creation of the script, and of the characters and effects, really gives me an opportunity to work with the director to make sure that it’s really seamless with how they coexist and work hand in hand, and how one supports the other and it’s not contrived and it’s not cheesy.”

By not cheesy, he means avoiding the over-use of CGI and going with practical effects. He says, “I think with my show and how it’s based in reality it would be interesting to try and have that kind of transfer over into a movie. So that when you’re shooting this stuff it’s shot practical, and people can really get a sense of what’s happening and that it is really real. It has that quality about it, that spirit, you can’t get from CGI.”

Can a street magician carry a movie? Why not. It has to be easier than ripping a woman in half.

I'm sorry, but a recent broadcasts of Criss Angel have left me with a bad impression of him and I'd have to say he's the jerk. Perhaps his phenomenal success and fan base have finally gone to his head. When he made himself up to look like David Blaine and openly mocked him, and not in a good way, I wrote to his "faithful" fan site email and stated that was unbecoming of a fellow illusionist, unprofessional and entirely unnecessary. I also asked to be proven wrong in my perception. No response.

His "escape" from the demolished building bit was extremely unsatisfying. We were promised an escape, and instead were handed some obvious trickery that most certainly was NOT "what you see is what you get". That plus a nearby news helicopter catching someone running out of the building while we're fed the "live" video feed which was a setup in itself...well.....I'm not impressed.

David Blaine's latest weirdo stunt of hanging upside down....huh? To both of these guys......throttle back a bit.
The smaller scale illusions are the most satisfying....stick with those and please let it all stay fun and don't take yourselves so seriously.

Maybe youre right to an extent.. It would be nice to be someone that makes millions on minimal effort of myself and maximum effort of those around me.. Yea, If I could have his job Id take it in a heartbeat! But I would hope to remain humble and respectful to other artists. This is his main flaw. So, NO...In this industry, it is not ok to proclaim youre better than someone else. It's very sad that this is the attitude he has influenced on this generation...very sad. If I or anyone else that isnt a "big celebrity" got on here and said "Im better than Criss"..we would be cursed and put down. Id love to see Criss get back to the guy that we all liked and respected. Criss WAS good...but now, it's only the efforts of those around him that make the "so called" magic happen.

wow some haters are really clueless.

i personally love Criss Angel.

but if you do bash him just know that that wont make him any less loved by his fans. in fact the more you talk about him the better he gets. criss needs you guys. it gets his name around. he doesnt need to prove to anybody that he is good,.

plus i been to his stunts and their were people of all ages there.

if you did your research you would also see that he has been doing magic since he was 6 and got on tv i n th mid early 90's.

he is straight and maybe it is you that is in love with plain blaine.

plus lots of people will say they are better than someone else. you cant go around saying your just like everybody else.you have to stand out. you really just are upset that your not him.

and lastly, criss is a pro magician and he is loved by a lot of people over come their fears. it helped me. so great job criss cant wait to see you again

Criss WAS good. And probably still is, he just doesnt prove it on Mindfreak. Yes, he uses stooges and post production editing WAY TOO MUCH! Yes, he's a jerk. Yes, he's full of himself. Yes, he's gotta problem with David Blaine (and any other magician who opposes a threat to him). Ive challenged him, Morgan Streblar has challenged him.. NO ANSWER! Yet he can run his mouth and call people out and make fun of other magicians. He's turned into a joke, but is protected by the television industry. His show is nothing more than a Hollywood production....NOT MAGIC. Im willing to say most of the people on here defending him are either, A-young boys, or B-females. Thats his fan base, because experienced, Pro magicians know whats really going on.
Young boys like him cause they think theyll be that good one day...BAD NEWS guys, youll never do 90% of the things he does unless you have millions of dollars, hundreds of stooges and a great production and editing team. Females like him because...well, he's famous and rich..thats pretty much all it takes.

'Putting down' Criss Angel, he doenst need anybody to 'put him down' he puts himself down. Look how he acts, he is so full of himself. I really do think he might have crush on Mr. Blaine..serioulsy if you are so much better than somebody why take the time out to bash and talk about them all the time, he clearly wants attention and is failing miserabley. And yes he does use stooges the fact that you saw a trick in person doesnt mean anything- anybody can do a trick in person- its different when its contrived, and badly edited, with stooges and fake spectators- all of which Criss does that is OBVIOUS. Btw, David doesnt need a number 1 t.v show ( although his specials have ranked high) or a movie coming out( which he has played cameos in two movies) to prove he is good, he's already a legend.

He's way awesome, I don't know who this David Blaine guy is, But ya'll are just putting Criss down because he's good and he know's he's good and isn't scared to say he's good. CRISS ANGEL is the best magician ever! Hes way better than "david blaine". An no he doesnt use stooges.If david blaines such a good magician than why doesnt he have a #1 tv show or a movie coming out ????????????? So there you have it criss is better.NO OFFENSE TO DAVID THOUGH LOL!

Criss is no fake. He is the real deal. David Blaine is good too.But Criss is the best magician ive ever seen.Criss,Congrats on the movie deal.Keep up the good work!

Agreed Henry:) As far as Criss bringing 'cool' magic back, if I remember right, David came out with Street Magic way back in mid to late 90's and has been doing since.Well all magicians tend to use stooges at one point or another but Criss is EXCEPTIONALLY bad at it, I guess he so overly does it on the cheese factor that I just cane be impressed. Personally I think Criss is the corny one and I do think he has a crush on David lol.

hahaha Christopher, but I agree, Criss Angel is the jerk, he cant even do magic without stooges (its a magicians term if your unaware, it means people he planned the trick with) David Blaine actually goes out and does things

uhh David Blaine isnt a jerk, Criss is the one who claims to be the 'best' but yet cant quit talking about David Blaine for two seconds. Perhaps he has a crush?
