Modern Day Merlin Movie In The Works![]()
When I was a kid, NBC aired a three-part mini-series called Merlin, starring Sam Neill. While I can barely remember any distinct details from the series (I was only 11 and I haven't seen it since), I do remember that it was incredibly cool. Twelve years later, Working Title is now trying to bring the Arthurian legend to the big screen. THR reports that the studio has begun developing a film based on the storied wizard, only with a twist: he will be brought out of Camelot and into modern times. The take on the character was pitched by writer Jay Basu, though details are being kept hush-hush.
Those with attention spans longer than four months may remember that they tried a wizard-in-the-modern-world movie back in July called The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Anyone remember how successful it was? Here's a hint: it made $63 million domestically on a $150 million budget. That's what we call in Hollywood a "failure." Why can't they just keep Merlin back in his own time? Would that be such a travesty? You could easily make an incredibly epic movie based on his story, but apparently studios don't think that will fly with the hip cool-cats of today's youth. Congratulations again, Hollywood. You once again have me stumped. I truly don't understand your version of logic. |
