Nic Cage’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice has been filming for awhile now, but it seems they haven’t finished casting. Variety reports that Monica Bellucci has joined the film in what sounds like it could be a fairly significant role.
Cage plays a character named Balthazar Blake in the movie, a sorcerer who recruits a young protégé to help fight off evil in modern Manhattan. Jay Baruchel plays the protégé and now Bellucci has been brought in to be a long lost love of Blake’s. She’s a sorceress named Veronica. Also in the film are Alfred Molina, Teresa Palmer, and Toby Kebbell.
Monica’s a criminally underutilized and viciously sexy, mature actress; it’s always great to see her getting more work here stateside. She hasn’t done an American film since 2007’s Shoot ‘Em Up, in which she plays a prostitute with a disturbing talent for milk production.
