Moon Wins Big At British Independent Film Awards
Thus far the grassroots campaign to snag an Oscar for Sam Rockwell's Moon performance, led largely by the film's director Duncan Jones on his Twitter feed, has been pretty limited to the Internet fan communities. But the movie itself got a huge boost yesterday at the British Independent Film Awards, where it upset the likes of An Education and In the Loop to take home the Best British Independent Film prize.
Oddly enough, the Best Actor prize went to Bronson's Tom Hardy, but Jones did snag the Best Debut Director award. Other big winners included the yet-to-be-released-stateside Fish Tank, which won Best Director for Andrea Arnold and Most Promising Newcomer for lead actress Katie Jarvis. And even if In the Loop doesn't manage to get any attention at the Oscars, it at least can be proud of winning Best Screenplay here-- an award it deserves absolutely everywhere.
The full list of nominees and winners can be found over at Awards Daily. Congratulations to all.
