More Master And Commander In a story about some movie called Hellboy 2 that’ll never happen, AICN has a blurb about something really cool: A sequel to Master & Commander. That is unless Russell Crowe gets himself thrown in jail for beating up a bellboy before they can film it.
The word comes from Lord of the Rings alumnus Billy Boyd, who was one of the original castmembers of Master & Commander: Far Side of the World. Said Billy: “There are like 21 books of Master and Commander, and Fox already own the ship so a lot of people, I think were confused as to why there hasn't been a sequel yet. We'll just have to wait and see. There is talk of it and Peter Weir said that I won't die in the next one, but he said I will die in the third one. So I've still got another movie, and then I've got a death scene! So great! I do hope they make some more as I had great fun making that film.” It’s easy to bash the endless series of sequels and remakes floating into theaters but at some point I think we’re all just going to have to accept it. If you don’t want to see a sequel or a remake, then there’s really not much to watch in the theater. Master & Commander though, unlike many movies, is wonderfully suited to be transformed into a series of seafaring adventure films. There’s nothing I’d love better than to see Aubrey swashbuckling his way through theaters with his crew for a couple of decades. The problem of course would be whether or not Russell Crowe will do it. With his profile sinking after that phone throwing incident, perhaps he’d be open to it. Let’s hope Fox doesn’t hand this franchise over to Matthew Vaughn. |
