Morgan Spurlock Hunts For Osama![]()
Morgan Spurlock is sort of what Michael Moore used to be, back when he was the guy who made that great little documentary Roger & Me, before he made Fahrenheit 9/11 and abandoned all pretense of fairness and objectivity in favor of becoming a rabble rousing provocateur and propagandist. Morgan Spurlock is Michael Moore if Michael Moore had any credibility, and that makes Spurlock’s work worth watching.
He first came to everyone’s attention with the great documentary Super Size Me in which he tackled the American fast food industry. Now he’s taking on another of our country’s most deadly enemies: Osama Bin Laden. Variety says Morgan is putting the finishing touches on a documentary about the hunt for Al Qaeda’s asshole leader. Spurlock reportedly has more than 800 hours of footage in the can, and he’ll narrow it down into a bite-sized film. What we don’t know is exactly what’s in that footage. Morgan isn’t saying. His director of photography Daniel Marracino says, “We've definitely got the Holy Grail.” Whatever that means. If you’re any kind of American, you’ve probably wondered why the hell we’ve been completely unable to capture Osama. Or for that matter, why we’ve utterly failed to accomplish much of anything in this whole “war on terror”. If Spurlock’s documentary can answer any of the questions lingering around Osama and Al Queda, then I’m interested, you’re interested, everyone is interested and he’s got a massive hit on his hands. |
