Mostow Terminates Superhero Genre![]()
This is a depressing one. Someone’s making yet another Superhero movie, and this time it stars Will Smith. Really people, this genre is overdone to the point of being flat burnt out.
But Smith is doing it anyway, teaming up with ‘Terminator 3’ director Jonathan Mostow. In fact, Mostow is pushing aside all his other projects to do this first. That includes the much talked about ‘Terminator 4’ and his remake of ‘Swiss Family Robinson’. Anything that delays his soiling of that family classic I guess I’m for, but I was kind of interested to see a fourth Terminator. ‘Terminator 3’ was surprisingly good. Their movie is called ‘Tonight, He Comes’ and according to Variety it’s the story of a washed up, sullen, depressed superhero who crashes in a small town and starts romancing a housewife to regain his um… vitality. That’s right, it’s not just another Superhero movie, it’s another Superhero movie that tries to come up with it’s own cute take on the genre. They couldn’t do Green Lantern or something sort of cool, no they had to follow in the footsteps of crap like ‘Meteor Man’. Of course, it involves plenty of romance too. After ‘Hitch’ Will has the Mr. Love thing to cultivate. It worked well for him there, so Columbia’s probably hoping for a little of that mojo here. Look for ‘Tonight, He Comes’ in theaters some day. |
