Mr. And Mrs. Flash Casting

Mr. And Mrs. Flash Casting No matter how much we shrug and claim we don’t care, the Justice League of America casting hits just keep on coming. With Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash (Wally West version) filled by relative no names (hey, so were Chris Reeve and Brandon Routh when they filled the tights,) attention turns to the some of the other characters. Word is coming down from separate locations that Barry and Iris Allen are being wooed into the fold.

Barry Allen was the Flash in the 1950’s through 1980’s incarnation. A police scientist who was given a chemical and lightning bolt bath one night, he can run fast. Really, really fast. IESB’s Robert Sanchez stated on their message board that Woody Harrelson has read for the role and everyone was suitably impressed. Since they are going for The O.C. fan base with most of the casting, it sounds like Barry Allen will be an elder statesman of some sort. That makes the casting of his wife, Iris, all the stranger.

Iris is the aunt of Wally West, the man who replaced Barry Allen as the Flash. Common sense (no relation to the rapper Common who is playing Green Lantern) would dictate that she be around the same age as Woody, but Moviehole says that Zoe Kazan has been hired. Kazan, the granddaughter of famous finger-pointer and director Elia Kazan, is only 24. So where will she fit in the movie where her husband, the Flash, is 46 and her nephew, the Flash, is 28. I’m sure it has to do with vibrating time travel or some such.

Update: Robert Sanchez appears to be the victim of some idiot pretending to be him on the IESB message boards, so consider the Woody Harrelson part of the story to be dubious and manufactured. Good thing, because it was a really stupid idea (Rafe Telsch).
