Will Smith’s superhero movie has a director. Columbia Pictures has hired Gabriele Muccino to helm Tonight He Comes with Smith in the film’s starring role.

Tonight He Comes is yet another twist on the men-in-tights genre. This time a tortured superhero crash-lands in Brooklyn and tries to change his life by romancing an alluring housewife. Chaos ensues. Smith will of course play the Romeo superhero. Tonight He Comes will probably fit pretty nicely on a bookshelf with Hitch.

It’s just another in the latest wave of superhero relationship movies for adults. In a few months we’ll see Uma Thurman as a pissed off super-girlfriend in My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Whether we get more of them probably depends in large part how movies like Uma’s do. So far, advance interest seems low.

But, at least Muccino knows how to work with Will. He’s just finished directing him in The Pursuit of Happyness, the story of a struggling salesman (Smith) who takes custody of his son while on the verge of a big career advancement.
