Muppet Movie Retitled To Be The Greatest Of All Time![]()
The Jason Segel scripted, James Bobin directed Muppet movie we’ve been following (joyfully and with a lot of wild Muppet-like flailing) may have undergone a name change. Formerly titled The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made, The Playlist says it’s been given the far less interesting title of The Greatest Muppet Movie Of All Time. Couldn’t they at least have gone with The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made? It just sounds better.
So the title’s kind of a bummer but their story also includes brand new details on the film, and those are a little better. They say the film’s about three retired entertainers getting the Muppets back together to save the studio their original TV show was shot in. The bad guy is an oilman named Tex Richman, who wants to drill underneath the studio. From their description it sounds like a lot of the movie may involve the Muppets putting on a show, which aside from the occasional Studebaker, is their natural habitat. In contrast, the best Muppet movies always had the gang out in the real world, interacting with real people (and the occasional cameoing celebrity). Maybe this isn’t the best setup. Unfortunately their source, who claims to have read the script, seems to agree. He calls the script a “solid attempt” and says it’s a fresh, younger approach to the characters. But at the same time he seems to think the thing will sink or swim on whether the musical numbers work and says the script only really hits the mark 65% of the time. I suppose that’s still better than Muppets from Space which hit the mark about… never. |
