The upcoming Salvador Dali biopic just got a whole lot more surreal for one Hollywood up-and-comer. Sunshine star Cillian Murphy has joined the cast as Dali’s art dealer friend, Stan Lauryssens according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As for the main character, the legendary Dali is being played by the great Al Pacino, putting one of the more promising actors to come along recently beside one of Hollywood’s best. One can’t help but wonder if the movie has the potential to set up for the acting duo a similar relationship as Dali had with Lauryssens, as the two had a mentor-protégé relationship in the artist’s later years.
The movie is Dali & I: The Surreal Story and is based on an autobiography by the real Lauryssens. It depicts Dali’s later years after his major works of art had been completed. Instead of Dali the artist, expect to see a more flamboyant side from Pacino. Andrew Niccol (Lord of War, Gattaca) is directing, a good choice for a surreal subject.
