I’ve been looking forward to this since January when I first saw this movie in Park City. The first trailer for Big Fan has arrived and for anyone who wondered how mid-level comedian Patton Oswalt was able to pull off such fantastic voice-over work in Ratatouille here’s your answer: Somewhere inside that funny little geek’s body beats the heart of a great actor.

Big Fan is about an obsessive fan, but it’s also so much more than that. Oswalt plays a man stuck in a lifeless, endless job and walking the path of an dead, meaningless life. At work he stays sane only by listening to and obsessing over sports talk radio. At home his only joy is rooting for his favorite football team. He’s rewarded for his devoted fandom by a brutal beating and left with a choice: Abandon the only thing he loves to change his life for the better or stay the course and keep on walking down towards that same, empty void. Whether you’re a sports fan, a comic nerd, or a member of the chess club… there’s a little bit of Paul in all of us.
