NYCC: Rorschach Gets Violent In New Watchmen Clip![]()
At this morning's Watchmen presentation, most members of the press were pretty certain we'd be seeing footage we'd seen before, at the Watchmen roadshow presentation last fall, But happily, Dave Gibbons and the Comic Con crew had a surprise for us-- a very short, never-before-seen clip from the middle of the movie.
Sorry I can't provide you the video-- that was obviously not allowed. But it's the scene where Rorschach is in prison, and in line at the cafeteria when another prisoner starts mocking him. Rorschach, as we all well know, doesn't take well to criticism or mocking, and gets his revenge by hitting the guy over the head with his metal cafeteria tray, then for the finishing touch, pouring hot fryer oil over his head. It's also, from what I know, the first live-action look at an unmasked Rorschach we've had. As we all pretty much expected, Jackie Earle Haley looks fantastic as Rorschach, especially with all the bruises and cuts left over from his arrest. The scene was also great because it was simple-- no flashy camera tricks or special effects (other than the burning oil, of course, but it was fairly restrained). Zack Snyder is capable of filming a scene without slow-motion after all! We'll have much more later from the Watchmen panel, including Dave Gibbons wondering why the hell everyone cares about the giant squid ending so much, and yet another refusal to have a single thing to do with a Watchmen sequel. Stay tuned. |
