National Treasure 3 Goes To Atlantis

By Josh Tyler: 2008-02-07 16:38:26

National Treasure 3 Goes To Atlantis With the money the second one made, there’s little doubt that Disney is planning a National Treasure 3. The question is where else can they take it? How many times can Ben Gate’s family be coincidentally involved in the pivotal events of history before the whole thing gets a bit ridiculous?

That problem may be solved in the third movie by ditching the “national” part of National Treasure and taking the gang outside the country to hunt for other lost treasures. That’s already been hinted at by Nic Cage, who several months ago said he wanted the next movie to be more international. Now the guys over at Jim Hill claim to have the scoop on what exactly Gates will be hunting next. Their guess? Atlantis.

They claim there’s already a brief plot synopsis for the sequel floating around at Disney. In it the Gates family goes to Easter Island to hunt for Atlantis and the perfect, clean, power source which was supposed to have powered the legendary sunken city. Their goal is to use it to end global warming, which would mean Disney could preach to us about reducing our carbon emissions while at the same time throwing Nic Cage off a cliff.

To me, the whole fun of National Treasure has always been the way it explores American history and makes it come alive. If that’s what they’re doing, then they’re totally abandoning that. Not only are they ditching the notion of looking for lost American treasures, they’re tossing history overboard as well in favor of hunting down fairytales, myths, and fantasy. A more logical move would be to send them after the Fountain of Youth. It’s still Fantasy but at least it keeps them involved in America and American history. I’d love to see Ben Gates on the trail of Ponce de Leon. But as we told you in our exclusive scoop back in June of last year, that’s probably the subject of the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. As the Jim Hill guys point out, Disney probably won’t want to double up on the search for eternal life. Maybe they should switch them. Jack Sparrow and his wacky, over-CGI’d fantasy world is a much better fit with the lost city of Atlantis.

I totally agree! I definitly think that National Treasure 3 should be on the lost suken city of Atlantis!!!

National Treasure 3: The Lost City of Atlantis!

I love these films a lot and I would love to see a National Treasure 4-6!!

I think the first film is very interesting and exciting! I love treasure hunting type movies! And I love the way it was made.

Ben Gates goes to Easter Island and finds clues and goes to Europe and then gets into a submarine and finds Atlantis!

    Awesome plot!!!

National Treasure 3 will be awesome to see coming out in 2009 or 2010.

Please make a forth National Treasure film followed by 2 more with the same cast starring in it and the same composer and producers and director!

Although I would like to see Ian Howe show up again (Sean Bean).

Maybe 2 villains in the third one.

National Treasure 3: The Lost City of Atlantis!

    Sounds great to me! :)

National Treasure 3 it may be good.

  1. Maddie Says:

I agree that the big draw of the movie is that it is American History. They could still go to other countries for the mystery, in the second movie they go to France. Maybe they should consider doing the third movie surrounding the whole mystery about The Lost Colony of Roanoke. It's a little further back in History than the first two movies, but they could come up with a cool movie surrounding it I think.

  1. jkiser Says:

this sucks, the movie will be awesome, but it is taking wayyyy toooo longgg

  1. Lee Says:

As a historian I love these movies! They bring history alive and make is fun for those whom always thought history to be a bit of a bore. I agree with the comment on keepin the movies based on American history and searching for Atlantis will ruin the National Treasure movies.

  1. Ted Says:

It better not be about that fraudulent scam global warming- or else I wont see it. I enjoyed the first two pretty much- and am currently looking forward to the third- especially if they really go for it with Atlantis- but if they try to underhand a political agenda like gl into this then they can forget my ticket. I "might" rent it on video- but that is it.

  1. JB Says:

Well now, if it were Atlantis, then it wouldn't be a "national" treasure, now would it.

  1. Chase Says:

I think that the third movie should be either about the mystery of Roanoke or The Bermuda Triangle.

National Treasure : The Mystery of Roanoke

National Treasure : The Bermuda Triangle

  1. Traci Says:

I agree that I am anticipating the third installment of the series, however, I have to say that it is called National Treasure and that veering from our Nations history would take away from the draw of the movies for me. If Nicolas Cage is pushing for a more international pull maybe there needs to be a different series of movies to satisfy that need for him. Also, with the last quote from Cage in NT 2 about page 47 being "life altering." It seems as if they are going for the Fountain of Youth. But I can't see two Disney series pulling the same plot. Hmm...Unless Ben Gates is going to take on Captain Jack Sparrow. Just kidding.

I hope that the same cast reunites because I really enjoy the comedy and quips from Justin Bartha. He has a way of working off Cage's delivery that is memorable.

    Anticipating the next chapter.

  1. lindsey Says:

i think that the third one (if they want to go international) should focus on the treasure of king alexander. He conquered so many countries and is predicated to have billions and billions of dollars in gold hidden at his gravesite. that would still include history, not a fantasy.

  1. asdfghjkl;\\\' Says:

I love both national treasure movies. Infact i saw them both the day they came out in theaters and i saw the second one 4 times while it was in theaters. I bought them both on dvd the day they came out. and i watch the second one every night before i go to bed. I am a HUGE fann!
In the second one there was talk of the mysterious page 47. It would be nice to hear about that in the thrid one however the writers cant come up with a story for it?

there was also foreshadowing about the lost city of atlantis, i think that was where everyone got this idea from. but personally i would like to see it continue wiht american history if it went on to international, egypt pyramids, africa etc i think it would ruin the whole concept of the movie.

National treasure teaches kids a little about american history it allows them to make a connection with some of the things they learn in school and makes them curious to learn more. i like that about the movies and this is a main reason i would like them to continue with american history. It brings an intrest into a topic that has always been thought of as boring. evrytime you watch it you can pick up on new things, whether they are intended to be that way or not.

If its going to take until 2011 to make this movie that would suck really bad because by that time the kids who have grown up loving the series may not be intrested in it anymore. So GET A MOVE ON IT!!!

and they betterrrrr keep all the same cast members, if they didnt garuenteed they would lose lots a money, so if they dont start filming the movie now the crew might not even want to do it anymore.

  1. Mallory Says:

I think that National Treasure is awesome! I would much rather see a third of it than a fourth of PotC, considerign the fact that I am a self-proclaimed history buff. I do think that it would be cool to have something more internationally based, but there are a lot of american things they could still work off of. After all, how would they connect page 49 (I think that was the page), to Atlantis?

As long as they don't get rid of Nick Cage, Justin Bartha, or Ben's girl (can't remember her name :) ), I'll be happy

  1. Robbie Says:

    National Treasure: Search for Atlantis
The Fountain of Youth is to cliché, but still a good subject.

  1. djfresh Says:

it doesn't have to be all about his family they can come out with other treasures and that he wants to explore and stuff and ill come and be in it and be a actor in it lol

  1. nicola Says:

these films seem to have followed wars that americans have been involved in. i expect the next to do the same so Atlantis is out in my mind.

  1. Robbie Says:

In the first 2 films Nic finds the two treasures with a purpase. But what if Atlantis will be found by accident?
Imagine: Ben goes diving, hoping to find some old sherds and stuff but then, by accident, discovers some old ruins (not thinking it is Atlantis, because it is not near the spot they think Atlantis lies). After some further investigation they find out it IS Atlantis.
What do you guys think? I think it would be great!

  1. Denkikoiji Says:

ok, now you can all thing about this, national treasure 3 is going to probably be about Atlantis and the hint for the page 47 it most likely going to be about the Bermuda Triangle. what else could it be ? unless they are going to make something up lol ^^ but thats just on my thoughts lol ^^ well i do hope on what ever it is going to be about it is good and i know i am going to go watch this next movie lol ^^

  1. Robbie Says:

    Here:
US President: Did you get the chance to look at page 47?
    Ben Gates: Yes, sir.
    US President: And?
Ben Gates: I think I can help you with that, sir.
    US President: So it's good?
    Ben Gates: Life-altering, sir.

When Ben says: "I think I can help you with that, sir" he means (I think), if page 47 is referring to Atlantis, that he can find Atlantis, because he also found the two largest treasures of America (and perhaps of the whole world). It is difficult to expain, but I think NT3 will be Atlantis.

Secondly: The Bermuda Triangle isn't anything you can 'find'. Atlantis, on the other hand, CAN be found, it's just a way of good research and clear thinking.

And a funny quote of Sadusky:
FBI Agent: Treasure hunter Ben Gates is on the news again.
Sadusky: What did he find now, Atlantis?

So I think, all the 'clues' are referring to Atlantis.

  1. Pedro Marques Says:

Well if they want to go to Atlantis that´s fine! It is also interesting to move for something bigger and older than the American History folks!!! The European history is fas more interesting and their developments lead to what America and the rest of the World is these days! So try not to see only in the sense of America!! Do not forget that the rest of the world also like to see movies!! And we are not Americans (even if they are Americans, don´t forget the other countries in that Continent!!!!). Which you always tend to do!

  1. Fabi Says:

With all due respect, I wish you would all get of your high horse about 'American history' (what little of it there is). You are not the only country in the world. Without European and World history, you would have no history. Besides, for a movie to be successful at the box office, it must have world-wide appeal.

Anyway, I, like many others on here, feel that a movie about Atlantis would be awesome, becasue that would be a truly worldwide search for clues etc. And it would be 'life altering'.

The fountain of youth would be kinda boring and old, and not many people outside of the states care (or know) about Roanoke. How about maybe nazi gold from world war II? Or something along the lines of the pyramids? The Holy Grail isnt a bad idea, but again, its been done that often and would be difficult to make it interesting.

So yea, my vote goes to Atlantis!
