I’ve just seen the trailer for the new Keira Knightley film Atonement, and it looks awesome. Yes, I know it’s from the same guy that directed Pride And Prejudice. I was expecting this to capture nothing more than a beautiful and complicated romance too, but it seems to be so much more than that.
The basic story follows a thirteen year old girl who observes her hot older sister (Knightley) flirting with the son of a lowly servant (James McAvoy). In a completely bitch move, the younger sister decides to lie to police and accuse McAvoy of a crime he didn’t commit. World War II eventually creeps it’s ugly head up, and the two lovers are separated by both gun fire and social hierarchy.
Don’t take my word for it, though. Surf over to here right now. Go. What are you still doing here? Atonement has been given a release date of September 14th, and it will saunter into some American cinemas in December. It’s originally scheduled for a limited release; so, I guess I’m going to have to bust out my Honda CRV and head to some art house theater in Chicago. It’s the small price I’ll pay to watch a potentially great film.
