New Dark Knight Viral Marketing Game Launched

New Dark Knight Viral Marketing Game Launched The hunt is on! Warner Brothers has launched the next utterly pointless viral marketing game on their viral website WhySoSerious. I know you’re all pretty excited, so here’s what’s up:

On the site here are a bunch of photos. Click each photo and you’ll get a popup with the name of a city and a set of instructions. Like the other pointless viral games Dark Knight fans have feverishly participated in, the instructions send you around your city looking for clues and answers to riddles. One you get the answers, back to the page and click on the painting on it for your city. That’ll take you to a spot where you can enter a combination, a combination which when gotten right presumably does something semi-cool.

Underneath the paintings for each city and the clues associated with each, there’s also a separate set of instructions which read this way: “Gather with 300 of your closest friends at this exact spot on April 28th. You'll need to be in contact with a partner-in-crime who has online access to relay your instructions once you're there. These instructions will give you the TRAIL to follow, but be sure to look both ways when crossing the street; we wouldn't want you to make an unscheduled visit to the ER now, would we? Put on a smile and plan to spend about an hour or so bonding with your fellow clowns. Check back here often for updates or changes.”

Underneath those are a set of coordinates to show up at. I guess once you get there the Joker kills you or something. It seems like a trap to me. Get cracking and tell me what you find. I’m much too busy and important to participate.

What the hell do you have against this? And why do you think this is so "stupid" and "pointless"? You're obviously not a fan anymore... or it seems you've just become a mindless drone churning out the same bland content over and over again. Where's that fanboy nature or excitement anymore?

I know a lot of friends and fans who love this sort of thing. It's about actually getting physically involved and interacting. It's about solving clues and puzzles and challenges. And it's about doing all of that in the name of The Dark Knight - a movie that I am looking forward to this summer more than anything. Do you no longer have any passion?

  1. JoshT Says:

Ah, so if I don't like wandering all over town to support a PR company's marketing campaign... for what so far has been almost no real reward of any type, then I lack passion???

    What the hell man?

What are you getting physically involved with? You're getting physically involved with helping a bunch of PR people push a product.

How is that passion? How is that fandom?

I don't see the point. If you want to do it fine, go ahead. But just because some marketing company says I'm supposed to like something and do something, I don't mindlessly do it just because they said so, in the name of being a "fan". That would indeed make make me the mindless drone you accuse me of being.

  1. DontAsk Says:

Opened the safe corresponding to the New York photo. It just gives more coordinates to a different location in the area

  1. JoshT Says:

    Sounds very rewarding DontAsk.

You going to go to the coordinates and see whats up there?

  1. DontAsk Says:

Na, I just read the coordinates off another site where someone else had posted it. I don't even live in new york. from what people are saying, it's directions to a theater or something to see that new trailer...who knows

  1. JoshT Says:

Hey, now that would be nice if it's true. Sending people to a theater to see the trailer is a MUCH better, fan friendly reward than the bowling ball they gave everyone last time.

    Definitely a step up.

  1. Ravan Says:

Your not a fan because you don't like annoying viral marketing?

    Mindless drone?

What a stupid statement. Really. Listen to yourself.

Who's the mindless drone. Someone with an opinion, or a sheep who follows the crowd looking for clues that lead to nothing special.

If it leads to an early screening let me know, otherwise it's just manipulative cocktease marketing of the worst kind

  1. Kris Says:

It has to be a new trailer. Its says in caps "TRAIL" then the next sentence it references a trip to the "ER"... odd istn it? "TRAIL"-"ER"?

I think we should stop complaining about this, its fun to sort of get involved in the whole thing. Yes I think there has been little real reward so WB should pony up something better. Who knows, maybe they are?
Still, to get involved and be a part of it, its kind of cool.
