In case you haven’t figured it out for yourself, you should know that Despicable Me is a babysitting movie. You know, like The Pacifier. It’s the most tired, worn out, awful family film genre still going in Hollywood but this is its first foray into animation. The formula’s pretty simple. You take someone who’s spectacularly unsuited to taking care of kids, and make them take care of kids. Cuteness and cliché jokes which make parents feel better about having no life outside of changing diapers ensue.

In this case the “unsuited to take care of kids” role is filled by Gru, the world’s number two supervillain. The movie’s new trailer gives us a longer look at his babysitting prowess and tries to make the case that just because he’s evil, doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy. I just hope he’s funny.
