New Line's Fantasy

discussioncomments published: 2004-10-15 00:00:00 Author: Joshua Tyler
Desperate to continue their dominance in the world of Fantasy films, New Line Cinema is snatching up anything they can find with Wizards in it.

Their latest acquisition is “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell” a bestselling novel by a woman most known for writing cookbooks. New Line reportedly picked up the rights to the book for somewhere in the high six to low seven figures.

The novel follow the adventures of a wizard and his apprentice as they fight the world’s most famous short dead dude Napoleon in the 19th Century. As they always do, things go awry, people try to raise the dead, and the book probably proves yet again that Fantasy has yet to top the man to whom it owes its existence, J.R.R. Tolkien. Reportedly though, the wizard in “Jonathan Strange” makes a lovely croissant.
