When Disney announced that they’d be making an updated version of Rapunzel, of course the world got excited. Fairy tales always pique people’s interest and Disney almost always handle them really well. They followed that announcement by showing off gorgeous landscapes rendered using both 3D and traditional 2D animation, which got the nerds who care about aesthetics instead of fairy tales all worked up. Disney had everyone hooked, until they changed the name to Tangled, which could easily be the title of the next Jennifer Aniston/Katherine Heigl woe-is-me rom-com, and dropped the terrible first trailer that took all the wonder and whimsy out of the tale and made it seem like a shitty high school comedy set in a forest.

/Film has a new poster that doesn’t make the movie look even a little bit better. Despite Disney’s efforts early on to make the film look unique, it turned out looking like every other CG movie on the market.

Tangled will surely entertain the masses of high school age girls, but judging from what Disney is using to promote this movie, it’s not going to entertain anyone else. Check out the poster and click on it for the larger version at Slashfilm. Below that is the official synopsis.

Walt Disney Pictures presents “Tangled,” one of the most hilarious, hair-raising tales ever told. When the kingdom’s most wanted–and most charming–bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. In theaters this holiday season in Disney Digital 3D(TM), “Tangled” is a story of adventure, heart, humor and hair–lots of hair.
