New Teaser For The Lady Hopes To Spread Democracy![]()
Seeing a short teaser for a film may not be enough to light the fires of excitement in your heart, but when the words Luc Besson appear on the screen that should be plenty to get you going. The legendary director delivered one of the greatest films of all-time, Leon: the Professional, and is the mind behind The Fifth Element which reinvigorated the sci-fi genre in the mid-90s.
The French director is back with The Lady, the incredible true story of Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman at the front of the Burmese democratic movement who spent years under house arrest as punishment for her beliefs. Check out the brief trailer below. As you can see you don’t really get too much out of the trailer, but the beautiful imagery will hook you even if the political trappings of the story don’t. Leading the way in The Lady is Michelle Yeoh, who unfortunately will probably not be showing off her extraordinary martial arts skills as the Burmese leader. Opposite her starring as her husband will be David Thewlis, better known to most of us as Professor R.J. Lupin from the Harry Potter franchise. The Lady will be premiering later this year at the Toronto Film Festival during one of the festival’s many gala events. The film will then be showing in France to a limited number of potential distributors should nothing come of its showing in Toronto. However, with Luc Besson at the helm, they shouldn’t have much trouble finding someone to put this one out. The Lady is scheduled to show September 12, 13, and 17, so check back around that time to learn whether or not the film has been picked up. |
