New York Film Festival Announces Lineup image
Come September I'll be spending all my time at Lincoln Center, covering the New York Film Festival, which is the sanest and most pleasant film festival in the entire world. And this year, it might also be the most subtitled. The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the lineup for this year, and it's jam-packed with foreign titles, including Cannes favorites The White Ribbon from Austrian Michael Haneke, Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces, and Lars von Trier's already legendary Antichrist.

Repping for the home team will be just three American titles-- Lee Daniels' Precious, marked as the Centerpiece, Todd Solondz's Life During Wartime, and the documentary The Art of the Steal from Don Argott. Technically there's a fourth American film on the lineup--a restored print of The Wizard of Oz.

The full lineup is available at the official NYFF site, where you can read about all the obscure foreign films I'll be seeing in September. It's great to have access to foreign filmmakers and all that, but I can't help wondering why the American auteurs seem to have dropped the ball this year.
