Now that Nic Cage has gotten the superhero thing out of his system by playing Ghost Rider, he’s moving on to other alternatives. He’s playing Liberace.

The news comes from TMZ where they’ve actually photoshopped Nic’s face on to Liberace’s pink fluffy body, in case you were having difficulty getting a mental picture. Whether Brokeback Mountain was as good as advertised is open to debate, but what’s becoming rather apparent is that it has opened the door for Hollywood actors to embrace their inner homosexual and get swishy on screen. Everybody’s doing it.

Cage is producing the project from a script written by Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg. Friedberg and Selzter are kind of a strange choice to write a Liberace biopic, their best known work to date has been penning the rather banal Scary Movie and a film which still sits on the bottom of my list as the worst movie of 2006, Date Movie. They may seem like a strange fit, but somehow I think Liberace might approve.
