So I guess Alex Proyas isn’t directing the Silver Surfer movie? The Dark City and I, Robot director had once been rumored to be the top candidate for Fox’s Fantastic Four, superhero spin-off movie, but now it looks like Proyas may be kind of busy. Variety reports that he’ll be working with Nicolas Cage on a thriller called Knowing.

Cage stars in the film as a teacher who finds a time capsule full of startlingly accurate predictions of things that have already come true, followed by a future prediction that he and his son will somehow bring about the end of the world. After the failure of Next, you’d think Cage might shy away from predicting the future for awhile. Weird.

Proyas though, is a genius, and I firmly believe could draw water from a stone if required. Handled correctly this could be a nifty little sci-fi thriller premise… or it could end up as Next. I have faith in Proyas to make it cool when they start shooting in Melbourne on March 17th.
