I’m always baffled by news items reporting on the random fantasies of actors and filmmakers. I’m not surprised that they’re reported, I know why they’re reported. They’re reported because you people want to read them. I just don’t get why you care. Take this one for instance. ComingSoon talked to Nic Cage, and he told them he’d love to do a National Treasure 3 and a Ghost Rider 2.

Now let’s think about this for a minute. Under what circumstances would Nic Cage say he didn’t want to do a National Treasure 3 or a Ghost Rider 2? This is Hollywood. Even if he hated Ghost Rider with a passion and had spent every day since hoping for the film’s director to get cancer, he’d still have to say he wanted to do another, just to avoid ruffling someone’s feathers and sending overpaid agents into spin-control overdrive. Of course he said he wants to do National Treasure 3 and Ghost Rider 2. He’d love to do more. It would be news if he said he didn’t. He’d also probably like to defeat terrorism and reduce America’s dependency on fossil fuels. So what?

The so what is you folks want to know this stuff. So now you know. Nic Cage would like to do more of whatever you ask him, especially if there’s a paycheck involved. Oh except he’d like to ruin National Treasure if he does another one of those. He says it should be “international treasure” and wants to grow his hair out like Tom Hanks in the DaVinci Code and go all Euro-trash, because he apparently has no idea why it is that people like the National Treasure movies in the first place. Treasure hunting in Africa, Asia, or wherever has been done to death. India is fresh out of Nazi gold to uncover. The novelty of National Treasure is the way it has so much fun with American history, which is usually relegated to civil war documentaries and Pearl Harbor movies. Thanks Nic, for hating America.
