I'm only OK with Nicolas Cage starring in a Taken-style movie if it also takes a few pages from Bad Lieutenant and Kick-Ass-- that is, if it's totally insane. Luckily, Drive Angry, a movie just picked up by Summit Entertainment for distribution, sounds precisely like the movie I'm looking for. Cage plays a man tracking down the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby, but eventually, according to THR, "The vendetta/rescue spins out of control, as the chase gets bloodier by the mile, leaving bodies strewn along the highway."

Works for me! The movie will be in 3D and directed by My Bloody Valentine 3D director Patrick Lussier, a guy who definitely knows schlock when he sees it. The movie won't come out until February 11, 2011, but it sounds very much in tune with Cage's latest career efforts toward being intentionally hilarious. If The Sorcerer's Apprentice also turns out to be schlocky fun, we may have a very, very strange career revival on our hands.
