With Ghost Rider nearly out of the way, Nicolas Cage is planning his next film. According to Production Weekly it’ll be something called Crazy Dog. I know what you’re thinking. “Oh god Nic Cage is making a sequel to the Patrick Swayze truckin movie Black Dog!” Sorry folks, the world’s not that cool.
Crazy Dog is an action-thriller about a New York City cop who turns coward and gets a friend killed. Consumed by guilt he “goes on a self-destructive spree” and “then seeks redemption”. I have no idea what a “self-destructive spree” is, so I copy/pasted it exactly as PW had it. Does that mean he goes postal on his neighbors, does he try to drink himself to death? I could tell you if I was willing to pay for IMDB Pro, but the site isn’t quite that successful yet.
What I do know is that Nic Cage’s head will not catch fire in this movie, and that’s a good thing. While most actors do a copy film every other movie, so far Nic has avoided falling into that pattern. Seeing him as a cop who likes to cut and run might be interesting.
Joe Ruben will direct from a script written by Henry Bean and Nick Kazan.
