Nicole Kidman Knows Kung Fu![]()
Nicole Kidman has been in thrillers and horror movies, dramas and comic book flicks. But until now she’s never played a spy. We’ll find out if she can pull off kung fu pretty soon, because the delicate Australian actress has signed up to star in a spy thriller for 20th Century Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie has not been titled yet, and very little is known about the plot. What do know is that the project is in the vein of The Bourne Identity, but with a female protagonist played by Kidman. The script is being written by controversial X-Men: The Last Stand scribe Simon Kinberg, who has some experience in the fem spy genre. He’s credited with the script for the highly successful Angelina Jolie ass-kicker Mr & Mrs. Smith. Kinsberg may know how to write female special operatives, but to me Kidman seems spectacularly wrong to play one. I have a hard time picturing her in leather pants delivering roundhouse punches or taking down enemies with her patented move, the flying camel clutch. She’s a great actress, but whether or not she can pull off this kind of role has less to do with acting ability than it does sheer physical presence. Yet, most of us said the same about Matt Damon before he played Jason Bourne. Damon surprised everyone and kicked ass as a black ops killer. Maybe another Bourne-like story can do the same for Sweet Nic. |
