Nicole Kidman Threatens To Quit Acting![]()
As the funny guys at Vulture have picked up on, it's recently become trendy to say you're quitting Hollywood. Clint Eastwood's been saying it for years, and now Angelina Jolie and Joaquin Phoenix are jumping on the bandwagon, saying this or that performance may be the last. Never one to miss out on a trend, Nicole Kidman is jumping on as well-- as Australia nears its release date in the U.S., its star says she might skip out on acting entirely.
"There are many things I want to do besides act," she said at a press conference in Sydney, as reported by THR. "I am in a place in my life where ... I've had some great opportunities and I may just choose to have some more children. I've no idea what is in my future, but I am very at peace with where I want to be." Kidman, of course, recently had a baby with singer Keith Urban, and also has two children she adopted with Tom Cruise (don't you kind of forget those kids exist sometimes? Poor guys). You can't blame her for possibly wanting to spend some time off the screen--her filmography lately has been nothing but a series of giant flops like The Invasion, The Golden Compass and Margot at the Wedding, though she probably unfairly got the blame for the lack of success. But Australia, against everything I would have predicted, may actually turn out to be a hit; why stop when you're finally getting ahead? Mostly this sounds like the kind of loose talk an actor goes into when asked a question they don't really know how to answer. Kidman is signed on for at least two more high-profile projects, including one in which she'll be married to Charlize Theron. So don't go starting your Nicole Kidman tribute concerts to get her to keep acting; something tells me we'll be seeing plenty more of her in the coming years. |
