Platinum Dunes is continuing on it's quest to plunder every iconic horror movie franchise and make something out of it. I say something because the other day Brad Fuller insisted that their Friday the 13th movie was neither a remake or a sequel. That then begs the question: well what the hell is it then? Don't bullshit. A remake, a reboot, a re-imagination, a new take, it's all the same crap just different semantics. If your gonna make your money raping movie history instead of coming up with fresh new ideas at least have the balls to be honest about it.

So according to Shocktillyoudrop.com next up on Platinum Dunes schedule will be the long rumored Nightmare on Elm Street remake which Dunes exec Brad Form says they hope to start shooting in the spring.

In an attempt to appease fans of the original, fellow exec Brad Fuller insists that they are going with a more serious horror tone similar to the original movie, rather than the wisecracking almost self-parody the later movies ended up becoming. However, slinging more shit in the face of originality Fuller then went on to say; “It'll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we'll borrow from the entire series." ” Borrow? Are we that devoid of ideas that they can't even come up with their own new kills? Well I guess they are being more honest about their intentions this time around. Way to go guys!

As for the big question, would Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, star? Fuller and Form say that while they want someone new to play the main character (another mistake as Krueger is one of the few franchise horror characters which required a face and personality for it's killer which Englund made his own) they will be actively seeking to include him in some kind of role if he's willing.

Revisionist history folks, it's here to stay. Forget new movies, forget original thinking. The true horror movie is dead and buried, whether it be 20 year old franchise or foreign hit, long live the brainless horror remake.
