In more comic book movie news, it’s all franchise identity. Stop any Joe Shmoe walking down the street and he or she could probably identify Spider-Man, Superman and Batman. Ask that person to pick Frank Miller’s Goldie and Marv from Sin City out of a comic book character line up and get a blank stare as an answer. So, it’s easy to think Michael Madsen may be on to something when he says that Sin City 2 could be in danger, reports Filmstalker.
“They haven't shot it yet. I don't know if they ever will. I am not sure [about] the franchise. I think the Grindhouse thing didn't kind of work out. I don't know what effect that is going to have on making Sin City 2,” said Madsen, who is barely involved with the pre-production on the film. “I haven't seen the script for Sin City 2. I don't know if they are gonna make it. I hope they do. And if and when they do, I will be in it.”
It could be that director Robert Rodriguez soured his Weinstein relationship with the Grindhouse flop. Then again, it’s doubtful that Rodriguez would demand a truck load of money for the Sin City sequel. The first film was backed by Dimension films and Troublemaker Studios. Troublemaker Studios is supposedly backing the sequel, so it hardly seems like the Weinstein Grindhouse flop would trickle all the way down to this project. Just don’t expect Tarantino to be asked to co-direct.
